New Year, New Updates, New Student Import!

New Year, New Updates, New Student Import!

As we say farewell to 2025 and welcome 2026, we also welcome a huge collection of exciting updates. This includes a brand new student import tool that improves the way students are imported in bulk, as well as bug fixes, facelifts and other quality of life improvements!

Student Management

  • Introducing our upgraded Student Import tool! We’ve introduced an improved interface & functionality that makes importing new students in bulk a breeze
  • Unassigned students would try to hide from a Student List search (when sorting by make-up credits), but we’ve tracked them down
  • You can no longer accidentally move a student from one family into the same family (logic wins)
  • Creating a new group tag while editing a student now allows that tag to be available right away, no refreshing needed!
  • Deleting 100+ students was sending the system into meltdown mode. Now it handles bulk changes like a pro.

Tutors & Staff

  • Links from the tutor list Booking & Availability column now appear as a slide-in window instead of a new page
  • We updated the wording from “tutor’s default price” to “initial lesson price” to better reflect its purpose
  • The location dropdown was being picky on what tutor/location combos it liked. It likes all combinations now.
  • Substitute tutors (that don’t have the “Manage students and other tutors’ lessons/events” privilege) no longer run into errors when taking bulk attendance for their substitute lesson
  • The “Set up automatic payroll” button is now hidden for non-admins
  • Payroll is now calculated when an event is scheduled, instead of when attendance is taken
  • If a substitute tutor would affect payroll for an event, we now give you a heads up that it’s affected
  • Payroll entries are no longer holding out when faced with specific combinations of student, tutor & category settings
  • Doubling the number of tutors available during a time slot was doubling the number of time slots available, but we’ve fixed the time paradox

Calendar & Attendance

  • The calendar month view got a bit of a makeover, with better scrolling and spacing (and some navigation improvements)
  • When saving edits to a recurring series, a prompt appears to save this or all future events. We updated this so that if you must dismiss a conflict warning it doesn’t prompt a second time. No more recurring recurrence prompts!
  • The bulk attendance page now shows the make-up credit amounts for all students, regardless of whether some of the categories don’t allow credits
  • Updating only one student on the bulk attendance page no longer reloads all students on the page (which means it loads faster)
  • Did you edit a default category and want to reset it back to what it was before? We’ve added a “Reset to Default” button.
  • No party crashers allowed! Birthdays were still appearing on the calendars of tutors who no longer taught those students.
  • We’ve returned “Birthday” to the calendar filter (welcome back)
  • We fixed some issues with quick-add lesson when switching tutors mid-set-up

Families & Invoices

  • Any payment notes made when adding a payment during a lesson now appear in the “Description” section in Families & Invoices
  • Trying to add a $0 expense entry was causing some drama, but it’s participating now
  • Invoices that didn’t generate properly were hanging around too long, so we’ve allowed the ability to delete them
  • Stripe refunds were living in the wrong timeline. Now, they are automatically dated to the day of the refund instead of the day of the original transaction being refunded

Student Portal & Booking

  • Transactions in the Student Portal now display the transaction type, so that it’s easier to tell the difference between payments and charges at a glance
  • The search function in the Student Portal calendar got a glow-up (it’s faster & smarter)
  • Book from Calendar & Book from Availability forms now let you know before publishing whether there are no open lesson slots/no availability configured

Business Reports

  • Transactions in the Student Portal now display the transaction type, so that it’s easier to tell the difference between payments and charges at a glance
  • The search function in the Student Portal calendar got a glow-up (it’s faster & smarter)
  • Book from Calendar & Book from Availability forms now let you know before publishing whether there are no open lesson slots/no availability configured

General/Other

  • Our homepage got a behind-the-scenes makeover! It looks similar, but runs like a dream
  • New keyboard shortcut! Click on a page in the main menu while holding ctrl/cmd and it will open in a new tab!
  • We’ve made it easier to click away from a search dropdown to close it (so that the search button can be clicked)
  • Future-dated blog posts were getting ahead of themselves and appearing on the homepage (for admins only). They now wait their turn.
  • Using the Enter key when switching to the Website Builder used to cancel the window, but now it submits the window!
  • Various cosmetic tweaks throughout
